Benefits of Using

Pelletizing the RAS (Recycled Asphalt Shingles) adds a moisture-resistant softening agent to the pellet binder and the age hardened oil becomes revitalized.  Also, a Hydrated Lime shell adds stripping resistance if needed.  In this manner hard brittle bitumen is converted to a softer and more vibrant bitumen with better adhesion and cohesion properties.

Due to the presence of high concentrations of agglomerated of asphaltenes in RAS, asphalt mixes made with RAS are often characterized by an increase of high and a decrease of low temperature characteristics and therefore creating an undesired increase in PG grading.  It has been shown that the addition of a bio-oil softening agent acts as an asphaltene dispersing agent and that a better distribution of asphaltenes in malting phase helps to improve rheological and physical properties of RAS thereby producing a PG compatible asphalt product

The finished RAS pellet is a water-resistant bitumen product suitable for storage in most climate weather conditions. The pellet includes a softening agent to reinvigorate the harder binders in the RAS and eliminates airborne particles during RAS handling and introduction in the asphalt hot plant. Consequently, the industry is favorably impacted by improved handling, long-distance shipping properties, introduction metering utilizing current addition equipment and increased safety for workers and their environment.
